The World's Safest Countries

Lists galore rate countries according to issues ranging from happiness (Finland according to Forbes), most educated (Luxembourg according to CNBC) to best food (France according to CNN)


The World Economic Forum studies economies in its annual “Global Competitiveness Report” which considers factors including terrorism, homicide rates, organized crime and a reliable police force since those factors impact economic activity and investment. Of course, except for war correspondents, safety rates highly for travelers as well.


The Forum’s report as extrapolated by Business Insider Australia (the full report is massive!) considers these the world’s safest countries:

#2 Singapore

3 Iceland

#4 Oman

#5 Switzerland

#6 New Zealand

#7 Luxembourg

#8 Hong Kong

#9 United Arab Emirates

#10 Japan

#11 Norway

#12 Portugal

#13 Austria

#14 Estonia

#15 Qatar

#16 Australia

#17 Netherlands

#18 Spain

#19 Bahrain

#20 Canada

The United States is #56, right after China at #55.
